The dissertation will explore the adaptive reuse of industrial heritage in Kosovo and its potential to serve as a driving force for sustainable urban regeneration in a post‑conflict and post‑transition context. The research will be grounded in the historical, social, and economic evolution of Kosovar cities and will examine how industrialization, deindustrialization, and war will influence contemporary urban structures.
The study will aim to develop a methodological framework for assessing and revitalizing abandoned industrial sites and will identify their cultural, spatial, and social values in reshaping urban environments. It will combine archival research, fieldwork, the creation of an inventory of industrial sites, expert surveys, and focus group discussions to provide an integrated understanding of industrial heritage‑led regeneration.
The expected contribution will consist of proposing sustainable regeneration strategies that will strengthen local identity, will support economic development, and will inform future public policies related to industrial heritage reuse in Kosovo.
