II Description of individual registration steps

  1. REGISTRATION FOR COURSES in IS KOS PRIOR TO THE START OF THE SEMESTER

    1. Pre-setting of courses by the Faculty before registration
At the start of the registration period, the configuration of compulsory courses of the respective semester including their time schedule is pre-set in the student’s IS KOS – except for:
      1. follow-up courses xxx2 – see par. 2 below: Registration for follow-up courses,
      2. selected courses taught by the Department of Mechanics and the Department of Mathematics, which are pre-set without time schedule hours,
      3. all courses in the Bachelor´s and Master´s degree study programme in Geodesy and Cartography (programme guarantor´s decision).

Students registers for compulsory elective and elective courses in IS KOS individually, according to their own choice and in agreement with their study plan.
If a student failed to pass a prescribed course enrolled in the previous semester, they must re-register for this course individually in the following period.

Each student can individually cancel or add courses in IS KOS until clicking on the "Close Registration" tab. By clicking on the "Close Registration" tab, the student has registered for the semester and can subsequently change courses only via the Faculty Student Administration.
After the expiry of the 2nd week of instruction in the summer semester, i.e. from 28. 2. 2025 11.00 a.m., all courses registered in IS KOS become binding regardless of the fact whether a student has or does not have a time schedule hour assigned to them.
    2. Registration for follow-up courses in IS KOS
The definition of a follow-up course: some courses in the study plan (course xxx2) follow up the knowledge of another course (course xxx1), for example: 101MA1, 101MA2. This linkage of individual follow-up courses is listed in the study plans on the website and in the student’s IS KOS.

Registration rules for follow-up courses xxx2:
      1. follow-up courses are not pre-set for students in IS KOS for the respective semester by the Faculty, if the student has not completed the previous course xxx1 by the date of pre-setting the courses;
      2. in this case, students register for course xxx2 in IS KOS for the respective semester individually, on their own, including the time schedule hours;
      3. the condition for this registration for course xxx2 is either a) completion of course xxx1 in the previous semester, or b) simultaneous registration for course xxx2 together with course xxx1.
Simultaneous registration for follow-up courses is bound on observing the following condition: The examination in course xxx1 must be passed at least one day before passing the examination in course xxx2, i.e., if a student has not passed the examination in course xx1, they cannot sit for the examination in course xxx2 either.
    3. Capacity of courses, capacity of time schedule hours of courses:
IS KOS distinguishes between the capacity of a course and the capacity of time schedule hours of a course.
The capacity of compulsory courses in IS KOS is pre-set centrally by the Faculty so that each student who has the compulsory course in their prescribed study plan can register for this course in IS KOS.
If, for capacity reasons, a student cannot register for some compulsory course in the time schedule (not applicable to compulsory elective courses), they must in any case register for the compulsory course in IS KOS without assigned time schedule hours. After the end of the regular registration period, the time schedule capacity of compulsory courses will be adjusted (increased), and the student will register for the course with its time schedule hours during the first days of instruction.
The capacity of compulsory elective and elective courses is within the responsibility of the respective Departments.
    4. Registration for Physical Education courses: students enter the respective course code in IS KOS, successively they must choose a sport and specific instruction hours on www.utvs.cvut.cz. The time schedule hour of Physical Education chosen on www.utvs.cvut.cz is not reflected in the student’s time schedule in IS KOS.
  2. STUDENT´S REGISTRATION FOR SUMMER SEMESTER’S STUDY
Students register in IS KOS electronically by clicking on the "CLOSE REGISTRATION" tab.
The registration can also be made without passing all examinations of the winter semester, even without the registration for the final configuration of courses in the summer semester.
The registration in IS KOS cannot be made if a student does not comply with the conditions for continuing studies, e.g., a failed course registered for the second time, non-fulfilment of the minimum number of credit points to continue studies.
If a student is unable to register electronically in IS KOS, the registration must be made via the Faculty Student Administration during the regular registration period (e.g. Master´s degree student´s registration for the summer semester after passing a study stay abroad in the winter semester).

The last student´s chance to register regularly via the Student Administration is on 14. 2. by 11.00 a.m., and in IS KOS on 14. 2. 2025 by 11.00 a.m.
  3. CHOICE OF TIME SCHEDULE HOURS IN IS KOS PRIOR TO THE START OF THE SEMESTER
Each student can individually change their time schedule of all courses in IS KOS depending on the time schedule free capacities available.
The students unregistered for study by the end of the regular registration period (14. 2. 2025) will have their time schedule of courses in IS KOS cancelled by the Faculty. The reason is to free the course time schedule capacities for registered students.

    1. Gradual opening of access to the time schedule for students:
Access to the time schedule will be opened to students gradually in waves during five days depending on the students´ study average, always for a certain group of students with the highest value of the weighted number of credit points for the last two semesters.
The first group with the highest value of the weighted number of credit points will be authorized access to the time schedule on 3. 2. 2025 at 9.05 a.m. On the following days, the time schedule will always be opened to the respective wave of students at 9.00 a.m.
Simultaneously with the opening of the time schedule in IS KOS, the relevant students are immediately sent a notification e-mail on this, i.e. these students already have access to the time scheduling available at the moment of receiving the e-mail.
During the morning data processing, IS KOS automatically evaluates the weighted number of credit points for all students who have not been granted access to the time schedule so far and allows access to the time schedule to the following group of students. From 7. 2., access to the time schedule will be opened to all students who have met the conditions for registration for the next semester.
    2. The calculation of the weighted number of credit points for access to the time schedule
for each individual student is carried out as the sum of values (4-GRADE)*CREDIT POINTS for all successfully completed courses (A=1 B=1.5 C=2 D=2.5 E=3 F=4, a credit is entered as 3, courses recognized from previous study are not evaluated.
    3. The students staying on a study stay abroad, the students recommencing study after an interruption of study will be allowed access to the time schedule by their respective Student Administration official based on a previous student´s request. The reason is that these students do not have any courses completed in the previous period entered in IS KOS to calculate the weighted number of credit points.
  4. CHANGES IN COURSES AFTER THE START OF THE SEMESTER
During the first two weeks of instruction in the semester, registered students can cancel a registered course or register for another course via the Student Administration. Only courses of the "repetitorium" type can be registered for even after the expiry of the first two weeks of instruction.
  5. CHANGES IN TIME SCHEDULE HOURS AFTER THE START OF THE SEMESTER
During the first two weeks of instruction in the semester, registered students can individually change the time schedule hours of their courses registered in IS KOS depending on the free capacities available in the time schedule.
  6. ADDITIONAL REGISTRATION FOR STUDY OUTSIDE SET DATES
is open via the Student Administration on 17. – 19. 2. and is liable to a charge of CZK 500,- pursuant to the Rector’s Order No. 7/2024.
Notice: Students unregistered by 19. 2. 2025 will have their study terminated for the reason of non-fulfilment of their study duties. For a potential shift of registration after 19. 2., students must submit a written apology for not observing the regular registration period with a reason to the Faculty Dean by 19. 2., and, at the same time, apply for exceptional late registration. The apology and the application are filed via the Faculty Student Administration – see the Study and Examination Rules for Students of CTU Art. 13 par. 4.

III Student Administration’s office hours in the registration period and information from CTU SIC

Extended office hours apply at the Student Administration during the first two weeks of instruction in the summer semester, i.e. from 17. to 28. 2. This is the period when students can still change their registered courses at the Student Administration.
