REGISTRATION FOR THE WINTER SEMESTER OF THE 2022/2023 ACADEMIC YEAR

for the second and higher years of Bachelor´s and Master´s degree studies

I   Basic information

  • In the registration time, students do the following
    a) choose courses in the IS KOS information system
    b) choose the time schedule for registered courses in IS KOS
    c) register for the winter semester
    d) make potential changes in registered courses and their time schedule after they have registered for the semester
  • Registration for the semester is made electronically – students register in IS KOS on their own by clicking on the "Close Registration" Tab. Students are allowed the electronic registration in IS KOS after complying with the conditions for advancing to the next academic year of studies.
  • If a student is unable to register electronically in IS KOS, they must complete their registration in person at the Faculty Student Administration.
  • After completing the registration for the semester, i.e. after clicking on the "Close Registration" Tab, students are no longer able to change their courses in IS KOS on their own. From that moment, courses can only be changed via the Student Administration.
  • Even after the registration is completed, students can still make changes in the time schedule for the courses registered in IS KOS on their own.
  • The option of changing the time schedule on their own is closed for students on the last day of the Regular Registration Time and reopened on the first day of instruction (i.e. access to the time schedule is closed for three days to be reopened again, the reason is the final set-up of time scheduled classes before the first day of instruction).

II   Dates and Procedure

A)   22. 8. (Mon) in IS KOS from 16.00 – 15. 9. 2022 (Thu) in IS KOS until 23.59
Regular Registration Time

During this time, students can do the following:

  • change courses in IS KOS until clicking on the "Close Registration" Tab, subsequently, after the registration is closed, via the Student Administration,
  • change the time schedule in IS KOS – access to the time schedule is opened to Bachelor´s degree students gradually on 22. – 26. 8. depending on their previous study results – see Art. IV par. 7
Master´s degree students are enabled access to the time schedule all at once on 22. 8. from 16.00
  • register for the semester in IS KOS by clicking on the "Close Registration" Tab.

In the Regular Registration Time, students can also register in person at the Student Administration during its office hours.
Students are reminded that the registration ends on Thursday 15. 9.
The students unregistered by 15. 9. 2022 will subsequently have their registration for courses in IS KOS cancelled. The reason is to free the course time schedule capacities for registered students.

B)   19. 9. (Mon) – 21. 9. 2022 (Wed) Late Registration Time outside the preset time
based on a written application submitted to the Student Administration

This Late Registration can only be made in person at the Student Administration and is subject to a charge of Kč 500,- pursuant to the Rector´s Decree No. 3/2022.
Unregistered students will have their studies terminated due to the non-fulfilment of their study duties.

C)   19. 9. (Mon) – 30. 9. 2022 (Fri) additional changes in the list of courses and their time schedule
after the start of instruction for registered students

  • changes in courses after the start of the semester at the Student Administration during its office hours
  • changes in the time schedule in IS KOS by students: 19. 9. from 7.00 – 30. 9. to 11.00

From 30. 9. 2022 11.00 a.m., all student´s courses registered in IS KOS become binding regardless of the fact whether a student has or does not have a specific time schedule assigned to them.

III   Registration for follow-up courses in IS KOS

Characteristics of a follow-up course: some courses of the study plan (course xxx2) follow up the knowledge of another course (course xxx1).The linkage of individual follow-up courses is listed in the study plans on the website and in the student´s IS KOS.

Rules for registration for follow-up courses xxx2:

1 Follow-up courses are not preset to students for the respective semester by the Faculty, if they have not completed the previous course xxx1 by the date of presetting the courses.

2 If this happens, the student will individually enter course xxx2 in IS KOS for the respective semester, including its time schedule, on their own.

3 The condition for the registration of course xxx2 is either a) previous completion of course xxx1, or b) simultaneous registration for course xxx2 and course xxx1.

The examination in course xxx1 must be passed at least one day before passing the examination in course xxx2.
This means that if a student has not passed the examination in course xxx1, they cannot take the examination in course xxx2 either.

IV   Other important information

  1. The condition for registration for the winter semester is obtaining at least the minimum number of credit points necessary for continuing studies, and completion of all courses registered for the second time.
  2. The last change of student´s registration in IS KOS in the Regular Registration Time by clicking on the "Close Registration" Tab is on Thursday, 15. 9. 2022, by 23.59.
  3. Presetting courses and their time schedule in IS KOS by the Faculty
At the start of the registration time, all students have a list of preset compulsory courses for the winter semester according to the prescribed study plan, including their time schedule, entered in IS KOS. The exceptions are: a) follow-up courses xxx2 – see Art. III above, b) selected courses taught by the Department of Mechanics and the Department of Mathematics which are preset without a specific time schedule. Students may individually change the preset list of courses (by adding of cancelling courses).
  4. Capacity of compulsory courses
This capacity is centrally preset by the Faculty so that each student who has the respective course entered in the prescribed study plan can register for the compulsory course. If, for capacity reasons, a student cannot register for some compulsory course with a specific time schedule (not applicable to compulsory elective courses), they must, in any case, register for the compulsory course in IS KOS without a specific time schedule. After the end of the Regular Registration Time, the time schedule capacity of the courses will be adjusted during Monday 19. 9. and Tuesday 20.9., and the student must then individually include the compulsory course in their time schedule.
  5. Capacity of compulsory elective and elective courses
This capacity is within the responsibility and is preset in IS KOS by the respective Department.
  6. Registration for physical education lessons
Students enter the respective physical education course code in IS KOS, but the time schedule of this course in not selected or displayed in IS KOS. Subsequently, they must choose a sport and specific instruction hours www.utvs.cvut.cz.
  7. The system where students are gradually enabled access to the time schedule applies – see the text below.

Gradual enabling access to the time schedule
Access to the time schedule will be enabled to students gradually in waves, i.e. always to a group of students with the highest value of the weighted number of credit points gained for the previous two semesters.
During processing, IS KOS automatically evaluates the weighted number of credit points for all students who have not been enabled access to the time schedule so far, and opens access to the time schedule to the following group of students.

The first group with the highest value of the weighted number of credit points will be enabled access to the time schedule on Monday 22. 8. after 16.00, and the calculation for the next group will always run the following day from 3.00 a.m. All students who have been newly enabled access to the time schedule by the respective afternoon or night data processing are immediately sent a notification e-mail, i.e. these students already have access to time scheduling available at the moment of receiving the e-mail.
Access will be broken up into 5 waves running from 22. 8. to 26. 8. From Saturday 27. 8., access to the time schedule will be enabled to all students who have complied with the conditions for registration for the next semester.

The weighted number of credit points for each individual student is calculated as the sum of values (4-GRADE)*CREDIT POINTS for all successfully completed courses (A=1 B=1.5 C=2 D=2.5 E=3 F=4, a credit is entered as 3, courses recognized from previous studies are not evaluated).
Up-to-date information on students´ access to IS KOS is published on the Faculty Computing and Information Centre´s website, see www.fsv.cvut.cz/en/vic/kos.php.
