Conditions for admission to study in Bachelor degree study programmes implemented at the Faculty of Civil Engineering CTU in Prague
in the 2021/2022 academic year

 

The admission of applicants to Bachelor degree study programmes is regulated by the following documents:
Act No. 111/1998 Coll. on Higher Education Institutions and on Amendments and Supplements to some other Acts as amended, the Statute of CTU in Prague, these "Conditions for Admission to Study in Bachelor Degree Study Programmes Implemented at the Faculty of Civil Engineering CTU in Prague" and the Dean´s Directive Public Announcement of Admission Proceedings to Bachelor Degree Study Programmes Organised at the Faculty of Civil Engineering CTU in Prague in the 2021/2022 Academic Year (hereinafter "Dean´s Directive").

  1. Conditions for admission to study in Bachelor degree study programmes:
    1. Completion of full secondary or full secondary technical education.
    2. Submission of a properly filled in application form by the 31st March 2021.
    3. Submission of enclosures to the application form specified in the Dean´s Directive.
    4. Gaining the minimum number of points in the entrance examination pursuant to par. 4.
    5. In the case of foreign citizens (excluding applicants from the Slovak Republic) applying for study in a study programme taught in Czech, certification of their readiness to study in Czech in one of the ways specified in the Dean´s Directive.
    6. In the case of applicants for study in a study programme taught in English, certification of their readiness to study in English in one of the ways specified in the Dean´s Directive.

    The applicants who have complied with the above conditions will be admitted to study at the Faculty of Civil Engineering (hereinafter "FCE") in the order of their number of points gained in the entrance examination, maximally in numbers filling individual study programmes specified in par. 5 to capacity. If more applicants have the same number of points as the applicant in the last place, all these applicants will be admitted.

  2. The entrance examination to the study programme of Architecture and Building Sciences consists of two parts:
    • written part – Mathematics (test),
    • oral part – Architecture (interview).

    The test in Mathematics covers secondary school subject matter as specified in the Dean´s Directive.

    In the examination in Architecture, the applicants will submit 4 artworks created exclusively by the applicant:

    • 1 motivation sheet to manifest the applicant´s interest in the study programme (e.g. a sheet entitled "Why have I chosen the programme of Architecture and Building Sciences?", a collage from photographs of favourite structures or interesting architectural details, etc.) – the content and artistic form of the motivation sheet are unlimited, the applicant´s creative approach is assessed. The motivation sheet is not a mere text, but an artistically conceived message.
      The sheet is the basic background material for an interview during the oral part of the admission proceedings and it must be created exclusively for these admission proceedings (no school seminar projects or collages made for student competitions etc. will be assessed).
    • 3 own graphical works on topics related to architecture, urban planning or landscape produced by any graphic technique (freehand drawing is primarily preferred) manifesting the applicant´s ability to perceive and capture space. Outputs from computer programmes may account for max. 1/3 of presented works.

    The graphic works assessed exclude drawings from descriptive geometry and related pieces of drawing, architectural designs elaborated as school seminar projects and studio projects, drawings made within previous study in the programme of Architecture and Building Sciences.
    If the board of examiners finds out that the candidate repeatedly submits identical graphical works in the admission proceedings, their point evaluation will be reduced.
    In the oral part of the entrance examination (interview), the applicant may be asked to manifest their drawing abilities on the spot.

    At their discretion, the applicants may also bring other background materials to manifest their interest in architecture and building engineering (mainly awards for secondary school research activity, certificates of participation in student competitions, seminar projects, studio projects, etc.).

    The assessment procedure of the oral examination in Architecture is specified by the Dean´s Directive.

  3. The entrance examination to study programmes of Civil Engineering/Stavební inženýrství, Geodesy and Cartography, Building Engineering, Management and Economics in the Building Industry and Civil Engineering consists of one part:
    • written part – Mathematics (test).

    The test in Mathematics covers secondary school subject matter as specified in the Dean´s Directive. The applicants for study in the programme of Civil Engineering take an entrance examination in English.

  4. The minimum number of points for the entrance examination necessary for admission to study:

    study programme of Architecture and Building Sciences:
    8 points for the examination in Mathematics (max. possible number of points: 20)
    10 points for the examination in Architecture (max. possible number of points: 20)
    study programmes of Civil Engineering/Stavební inženýrství, Management and Economics in the Building Industry, Civil Engineering, Geodesy and Cartography, Building Engineering:
    8 points for the examination in Mathematics (max. possible number of points: 20)

  5. The maximum numbers of students admitted to study:

    in study programmes ofArchitecture and Building Sciences 380
      Civil Engineering/Stavební inženýrství 1320
      Management and Economics in the Building Industry 200
      Geodesy and Cartography 200
      Building Engineering 200
      Civil Engineering 50

  6. Conditions for the waiver of the entrance examination in Mathematics:

    The Dean will waive the entrance examination in Mathematics to the applicants who completed secondary school in the Czech Republic pursuant to Act No. 561/2004 Coll. (Education Act) or the Slovak Republic pursuant to Act No. 245/2008 (Education Act), passed the school-leaving examination in the 2020/2021 or 2019/2020 school years and comply with at least one of the conditions below:

    1. The mean average (expressed as two decimal places) of all marks in the subject of Mathematics listed in the reports for the 2nd half year of the last four grades of secondary school (for applicants who take their school-leaving examination in the 2020/2021 school year, the mark obtained for the 1sthalf year of the last grade is used in the calculation) is no greater than 2.00 and, simultaneously, the number of marks in the subject of Mathematics included in the mean average calculation is minimally three;
    2. They have passed the school-leaving examination in the common (state) part pursuant to Education Act No. 561/2004 Coll. in the subject of Mathematics scoring 85 to 100%.
    3. They have passed the school-leaving examination in the profile (school) part pursuant to Education Act No. 561/2004 Coll. in the subject of Mathematics with the result of "excellent".
    4. They have passed the school-leaving examination in the non-compulsory part pursuant to Education Act No. 561/2004 Coll. in the subject of extended Mathematics scoring 66 to 100%.

    The entrance examination waiver is not subject to a special application.
    All applicants whose entrance examination in Mathematics was waived and who obtained the minimum number of points in the entrance examination in Architecture (interview) will be admitted to the study programme of Architecture and Building Sciences.
    All applicants whose entrance examination in Mathematics was waived will be admitted to the other study programmes.

  7. The entrance examination will be waived to all applicants for study in Bachelor degree programmes who certify that their permanent address is outside the Czech Republic and who have participated in the National Comparative Tests SCIO in Mathematics (MAT) scoring percentile 65 or above.

  8. Upon written request, the entrance examination may be waived by the Dean to foreign citizens (excluding applicants from the Slovak Republic) who apply for study in the study programme of Civil Engineering and certify their corresponding knowledge of English in the application form pursuant to par. 1f).

  9. While announcing the admission proceedings the Dean may condition the opening of some study programmes by minimum numbers of students registered for study in these study programmes.

  10. Depending on the results of the admission proceedings the Dean may reduce the minimum numbers of points required for the successful passing of the entrance examination for individual study programmes.

  11. The Dean may increase the maximum numbers of students admitted to study in individual study programmes as specified in par. 5, based on the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports limits for the numbers of financed students.

  12. FCE does not accept application forms from applicants who were expelled from study at FCE CTU in a disciplinary proceeding under Art. 2 of the Disciplinary Code for the Students of CTU in Prague, or who terminated their study by withdrawing from study during an opened disciplinary proceeding, or who cheated during previous admissions proceedings to FCE.

  13. The applicants who cheat during the admission proceedings will not be admitted to study at FCE. The decision whether an applicant cheated is at the Dean´s discretion.

  14. The Dean may open an exceptional date of the entrance examination for other applicants for study. The announcement of an exceptional date of the entrance examination will be published in the public part of the FCE web site.

  15. If the personal presence of candidates at entrance examinations is not possible for the reason of declared public health measures against the spread of the coronavirus infection, the admission proceedings will run according to Annex 1 to this Measure. The application of this article is at the Dean´s discretion depending on up-to-date measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus infection.

  16. The course of the admission proceedings, including the dates of entrance tests, is regulated by the Dean´s Directive.

  17. These conditions were approved by the FCE Academic Senate on 21. 10. 2020.

Annex No. 1

If the personal presence of candidates at entrance examinations is not possible for the reason of declared public health measures against the spread of the coronavirus infection, the original wording of the Dean´s Measure No. 16/2020 Conditions for admission to study in Bachelor degree study programmes implemented at the Faculty of Civil Engineering CTU in Prague in the 2021/2022 academic year of 21.10.2020 will be amended as follows:

  1. The entrance examination to the study programme of Architecture and Building Sciences consists of two parts:
    • written part – Mathematics (test),
    • graphic part – Architecture (submitted graphic works and substantiation of interest in studying architecture in the digital format).

    The test in Mathematics covers secondary school subject matter as specified in the Dean´s Directive.
    In the examination in Architecture, the applicants will submit 4 artworks created exclusively by the applicant:

    • 1 motivation sheet to manifest the applicant´s interest in the study programme (e.g. a sheet entitled "Why have I chosen the programme of Architecture and Building Sciences?", a collage from photographs of favourite structures or interesting architectural details, etc.) – the content and artistic form of the motivation sheet are unlimited, the applicant´s creative approach is assessed.
      The motivation sheet is not a mere text, but an artistically conceived message.
      A short video introducing the applicant is recommended.
      The sheet must be created exclusively for these admission proceedings (no school seminar projects or collages made for student competitions etc. will be assessed).
    • 3 graphical works on topics related to architecture, urban planning or landscape produced by any graphic technique (freehand drawing is primarily preferred) manifesting the applicant´s ability to perceive and capture space.
      Outputs from computer programmes may account for max. 1/3 of presented works. The graphic works assessed exclude drawings from descriptive geometry and related pieces of drawing, architectural designs elaborated as school seminar projects and studio projects, drawings made within previous study in the programme of Architecture and Building Sciences.
      If the board of examiners finds out that the candidate repeatedly submits identical graphical works in the admission proceedings, their point evaluation may be reduced.

    The applicant shall further submit:

    • declaration of the authorship of submitted works and confirmation of the truthfulness of communicated data by which the applicant proves their interest in the branch (Annex A).
    • other background materials (at their discretion) to manifest the applicant´s interest in architecture and building engineering (mainly certificates of passing preparatory courses, awards for secondary school research activity, certificates of participation in student competitions, seminar projects, studio projects, etc.).

    The assessment procedure of the examination in Architecture is specified by the Dean´s Directive.

  1. In connection with the coronavirus crisis, the Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering hereby waives the entrance examination in Mathematics to all applicants for study in Bachelor degree study programmes implemented at the Faculty of Civil Engineering CTU in Prague in the 2021/2022 academic year.

    The entrance examination waiver is not subject to a special application.

    All applicants whose entrance examination in Mathematics was waived and who obtained the minimum number of points in the entrance examination in Architecture will be admitted to the study programme of Architecture and Building Sciences. All applicants whose entrance examination in Mathematics was waived will be admitted to the other study programmes.
