Abstract(semestr )
Students will obtain basic view about individual types of hydroelectric power stations and they will be informed about methods of hydropower utilization. Mathematical modelling will be presented with respect to optimized design of hydraulic structures, especially intakes and water turbines.
Content
The course focuses on hydropower utilization and mathematical modelling as a design tool for hydraulic structures.

Hydropower - types, classification, general HPP schemes, operation
Hydropower potential, streamflow data
Intake structures (diversion works; canals; tunnels; pipes; incl. loading)
Water hammer and surge tanks
Hydraulic turbines and their specifications
Low head HPP including power house
Medium head HPP including power house
High head HPP including power house
Other components of HPP (electric equipment, generators, control systems, etc.)
Small and micro HPP
Basics of CFD (computational fluid dynamics) theory and Ansys CFX workbench
Types of models - open chanel flow, presure flow
Postprocessing and results evaluation
