Basic information for potential applicants to Doctoral degree studies
Doctoral degree study programmes offer the highest level of education, the chief characteristic of which is individual and original research
activity in cooperation with an experienced supervisor.
This education prepares students for both further scientific careers and highly qualified positions in a wide range of other professions.
Successful Doctoral degree studies (hereinafter referred to as "DDS") are concluded with the defence of a dissertation and the awarding of
a Ph.D. degree used after the name.

To submit an application the student first chooses the
general topic of a dissertation
and a
department. The supervisor who will guide them throughout
their Doctoral degree studies will be specified during the admissions proceedings.
Admissions proceedings
They usually take place in June (with studies starting from 1
st September) and January (start from 1
st March). For more detailed

During the oral interview before the Admissions Committee, the applicant´s qualifications are assessed in the categories listed in
The Dean´s Directive for Admissions Proceedings to Studies in DDS.
The type of study can be:
- full-time
- combined
Students choose their type of study when filling in the application form.
- full-time type of study
The full-time type of DDS allows students to enjoy all the benefits of student status, including eligibility for scholarships - for more information, visit the
DDS website - accommodation in dormitories, or an accommodation scholarship
and a discount on public transport.
A full-time Doctoral degree student may be simultaneously employed to work on research projects.
The obligations of DDS students include compiling an individual study plan (hereinafter referred to as "ISP") via the
iKOS system, i.e. 6 compulsory specialized courses and English language, plus potential other
elective courses.
The ISP for full-time Doctoral Degree students includes teaching practice and the obligation to complete part of their study at a foreign institution
for a period of at least one month or to participate in an international project or in another form of international cooperation.
Block of study
The block of study (6 compulsory specialized courses, English language, and a professional debate) in the full-time type of study must be completed within
2 years of starting the studies.
The holding of the professional debate is regulated by the
Guidelines for Conducting a Professional Debate in Ph.D. Study at FCE CTU in Prague.
The Defence of a Dissertation (hereinafter referred to as "DD")
is regulated by Art. 30 SER.
DDS students are required to submit their dissertation no later than 6 years after the date of admission to the DDS programme, and their studies must be completed
within 8 years (maximum duration of studies). The maximum duration of studies also includes any periods when the studies were interrupted.
- combined type of study
The obligations of DDS students include compiling an individual study plan (hereinafter referred to as "ISP") via the
iKOS system, i.e. 6 compulsory specialized courses and English language, plus potential other
elective courses.
Part of the Doctoral student´s ISP in the combined type of study is the obligation to complete part of their studies at a foreign institution for a period
of at least one month or to participate in an international project or in another form of international cooperation.
Block of study

of starting the studies.
