Anotace(semestr )
The course introduces the students to the theoretical background of indoor environmental quality (IEQ) aspects related to energy performance of buildings. During several lectures basic components of indoor environment are listed and described. Lectures are complemented by seminars, where the students can experience measurements and evaluation of IEQ.
Obsah
This comprehensive course explores the nexus of sustainable building design, energy efficiency, and indoor environmental quality (IEQ). Lectures span topics from foundational energy principles to advanced HVAC technologies, IAQ management, thermal comfort, visual and acoustic design, and psychological well-being. The curriculum culminates in IEQ assessment methods, emphasizing the evaluation of building performance. Practical seminars enhance learning, covering energy concepts in air, heat, water, and electricity, as well as advanced sessions on IAQ, thermal comfort, visual comfort, acoustics, and questionnaire surveys. With a holistic approach, this course equips students to design and evaluate buildings that prioritize sustainability, occupant comfort, and overall well-being.
During several seminars students will experience IEQ assessment on their own using different measuring instruments, working with valid standards to assess the quality of different IEQ components either in the lecture hall or in a lab.
On top of that the students will work on individual projects. Students will have to select at least three different building types. They will try to do IEQ assessment for these spaces. Their conclusions will be based on available documentation and individual findings. Examples of buildings to be investigated within the project: University spaces, students'' dormitory, theatre, exhibition hall, railway station, shopping centre, gym, library, church, cinema...
Course is concluded by submission of final report and presentation of the project.
