Anotace

The proposed Ph.D. theme focuses on the optimization of engineered barrier systems (EBS) for deep geological repositories of radioactive waste, specifically through the use of bentonite-based mixtures. This research will investigate the development of advanced bentonite formulations that enhance barrier performance, particularly in terms of hydraulic conductivity, swelling capacity, and mechanical stability.

Key areas of study will include:

1. Development of bentonite mixtures: Exploring various compositions of bentonite mixed with other materials.

2. Characterization: Employing geotechnical and other techniques such as permeability tests to analyze the structural and functional attributes of the modified bentonite mixtures.

3. Mathematical Modelling: Creating predictive models that simulate the behavior of the mixtures in the engineered barrier under different environmental conditionss.
